We have implemented the Bounds Green low traffic neighbourhood trial because such schemes have been proven to reduce car journeys and congestion, clean up toxic air, and promote active travel.
New research by Imperial College shows that Islington’s low traffic neighbourhoods have reduced nitrogen dioxide emissions inside the schemes and in the boundary roads, as well as traffic dropping by over half inside the low traffic neighbourhoods and by 13% on the boundaries. The researchers found that the schemes reduce traffic without displacing it to nearby streets.
This is all very encouraging and we’re hopeful that we will see these results in Haringey, but we are also clear that our low traffic neighbourhoods are experimental and that no one scheme/borough is the same.
The introduction of our low traffic neighbourhoods has sparked fierce debate – both positive and negative. We are keen for those living, working and visiting the area to have their say and are listening to all sides of the argument. This site provides you with the opportunity to tell us what is and isn’t working using the interactive maps and provides more information on the scheme and exemptions. Help us shape the future of this low traffic neighbourhood and encourage your neighbours to do the same. The deadline for responses to the survey is 31 January 2023.

The Bounds Green low traffic neighbourhood trial is divided into three areas – A, B and C.
In total, 10 new traffic filters have been installed to stop motor traffic using this neighbourhood as a through route. A filter can be camera-enforced or a physical restriction, such as a bollard or planter. Camera enforcement enables emergency, waste vehicles and where permitted those with exemptions including Blue Badge holders to pass through. All homes and businesses remain accessible by motor vehicle although there may be fewer routes available.
Since the Cabinet decision to implement the Bounds Green low traffic neighbourhood trial, we have continued to work closely with the emergency services on the design of the scheme. Following these discussions, we made changes to two filters: both Queens Road and Passmore Gardens have been changed from a physical filter to camera enforced.
The colour-coded maps below show the location of the filters, along with the streets within each shaded area which can be accessed from each boundary road of the low traffic neighbourhood.
The traffic filters have been introduced at the following locations:
Area A
Area B
Area C
A trial School Street with camera-enforced timed closure has been implemented on Trinity Road in Area A and Blake Road in Area C. We installed these earlier in 2022 as part of a phased rollout of the Bounds Green low traffic neighbourhood to create a safe walk and cycle zone outside the schools at drop-off and pick-up times. The following change was applied when the low traffic neighbourhood trial began:
Six new cycle hangars have been provided allowing 36 bikes to be stored safely. These are located at:
